Marching Band Uniform Care

Our performance shirts are machine washable and the students may take them home after each use, wash, and return them. The washing instructions must be followed so the shirts will last for several seasons.
They may take the shirt immediately after the performance. It must be returned to the garment bag within 1-2 school days.
Machine Wash Cold. The gentle/delicate cycle is preferred.
Do not wash it inside out to avoid the shoulder pads getting caught or torn off.
Avoid washing with other garments that have velcro, straps, buttons, or anything that may cause snags on the performance shirt.
Do not use bleach.
Tumble Dry on Low (or hang dry). Be sure the shoulder pads dry thoroughly!
Do not iron.
Return the shirt to the garment bag within 1-2 school days. If the shirt is taken home after a Friday football game or Saturday competition, it needs to be back in the student’s garment bag (hung up properly) on Monday.

Any jewelry that is worn should be simple/discreet.
No bracelets, smart watches, etc. during competition performances or football games.
When wearing Apollos: long hair should be worn in a high bun to fit over the Apollo ring. Use hair pins, spray, gel, and other hair products as needed.
Tuck in your shoe laces underneath the tongue of your shoe, or are tied in a double knot.
Make sure the stirrups of your marching pants are secured underneath your foot. This is to make sure your pant legs stay straight!
Hang your pants underneath the top/shirt you will wear next. ex. hang your pants with your Competitive uniform for Show Days, but with your Football shirt on Game Days.
If you have any issues with your uniform, write it down on the Uniform Room door whiteboard, and a band parent will try to fix it!
Basic Uniform Storage
Make sure the hanger is facing you with the hook coming from the left (open space on the right). Hang your uniform evenly, so it doesn’t fall off during the truck’s drive!
Hang your uniform neatly and flat within your garment bag.
Put your uniform in/out with the garment bag flat on the ground.
If you are in the Competitive Marching Band, your Marching uniform goes in FRONT of your Football Uniform.
Place your uniform on the CORRECT rack in ALPHABETICAL order!
ex. name: Doc Buchanan - place uniform on A-G Rack, sorted alphabetically amongst the “B” last name uniforms.Apollo boxes should be stored on the CORRECT rack as well, either in the top or the bottom spaces.

Fold your pants ALONG the pleats/creases!
Hang your performance shirt OVER your pants. Make sure both sit evenly on the hanger.
Competitive Uniform Example Images
Hang your competitive shirt evenly on the hangar first.
Put the Top OVER the shirt, and make sure it hangs evenly. The sleeves should be pulled through the sleeve holes as well.
Apollo Headwear Info
The Apollo is a unique mark of the uniform and should be treated with care.
When putting on the Apollo wrap, line up both ends down the center line at the back. Make sure to fasten the top velcro as well.
a. For the Football Apollo…the “chevron” cut out aligns at the front, down the center of the Apollo ring.
b. For the Competitive Apollo…the silver “bar” aligns at the front, down the center of the Apollo ring.
c. Take your time and be gentle! Put the wrap slowly and carefully on the velcro. Do not rip the wrap off the velcro.
The Apollo should sit correctly AND low on your head…the gap between your nose and the visor should be equal to two fingers.
When handling the plume, do not hold it by/touch the feathers. Only grab it by the pin at the bottom when taking it out/putting it in.
Holding the Apollo: Always hold the Apollo with your LEFT hand…hold the Apollo with 4 fingers gripped on the brim, and have it sitting upright on your forearm.
**Take note: talking is not permitted while wearing the Apollo…the only exception to this rule is Full Retreat at the BOA Regionals**
