Concert Attire

Alta Sierra Instrumental Music

All ASI instrumental music students wear a red polo for concert and jazz performances (except for colorguard). All band & percussion students also need an ASI Instrumental Music T-Shirt for football games, parades, and other spirit events. Information on how to get a polo and t-shirt is provided at the beginning of the school year.

  • All Alta Sierra Instrumental Music students will wear the following for Concert & Festival performances:

    • ASI Instrumental Music polo shirt (Purchased or Loaned from our program)

    • Black dress-style shoes (student provided)

    • Black dress-style slacks w/ belt

    • Black socks (no white socks, please!)

    • ASI Instrumental Music T-shirt (Purchased or Loaned from our program)

    • Blue jeans (student provided)

    • Tennis shoes (student provided)

Buchanan Instrumental Music

Symphonic Band & String Orchestra wear all black. Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, & Wind Symphony wear tuxedos and concert dresses for most performances during the school year. The classic tux and dress combination brings a great look to our ensembles.

  • All black formal dress attire. Acceptable Concert Attire: Black Dress Pants, Black Dress Shirt, Neckties, Long Dresses, Long Skirts, Dress Shoes, Dress Socks, Belt.

  • Concert dresses are ordered and purchased through the program. Students will be measured and dresses will be ordered in the fall. You can purchase the dress using the payment form below. We have a very limited amount of dresses to loan, please complete the loan form if you have a need.

    The dress will need to be hemmed once received. If you are not able to hem your own dress, many shops around the area will be able to help you. Please hem the dress one to two inches (1”-2”) above the floor while wearing the shoes you will wear for concerts. We suggest no more than a one to two inch "tuck" in case the hem needs to be let out later.

  • The standard tuxedo is made up of five pieces:

    • Notch Lapel Tuxedo Coat (polyester or wool - wool is better!)

    • Adjustable Waist FLAT FRONT Pants (No Pleats!) (Slim Fit Preferred) (polyester or wool - wool is better!)

    • White Wing Tip Collar Shirt with 1/4” Pleats

    • Black Cummerbund

    • Black Bowtie

    • You will also need black shoes and socks as well as cufflinks and studs for your shirt!

    There are many options for you to consider if you do not have a tuxedo already. Several online and local retailers offer a complete tuxedo for purchase at a reasonable price. Some local shops may offer extended rental options as well. Please ask other members of the ensemble where they got their tuxedos for ideas.

    Please make sure you have your tuxedo in time for the first performance.

    If you already have a tuxedo, please try it on to make sure it still fits, so there are no surprises on the first concert night! 

We appreciate your support of our programs and your help in ensuring a wonderful performing experience for our students in our instrumental music ensembles! 

*If you face a financial hardship that makes it difficult for you to purchase the appropriate concert attire, please let us know and we will do everything we can to assist you. You are not required to purchase a concert uniform to fully participate in our program.
