2026 Folsom Jazz Festival

Dear Buchanan Jazz Band A Parents/Guardians,

We are planning a trip to Northern California to perform at the Folsom Jazz Festival in January 2026! Because of the significance of this trip and the “one-per-part” nature of the jazz band, the expectation is that all Jazz Band members will attend the trip. Below are some tentative details for planning purposes.

Student Travel
All trips we take are detailed and organized with our priority being the students’ safety. Clear expectations will be discussed and communicated thoroughly to ensure the students have the best/safest experience possible. I’d be happy to speak with you regarding any concerns you might have. 

Tentative Itinerary
This competitive festival is on Saturday, January 24, 2026. We will drive up on January 24, participate in the festival, and spend that night in a hotel in Folsom. The next day, we’ll check out of the hotel, spend a few hours in Old Town Folsom, and return to Buchanan in the early evening.

Chaperones
We need chaperones to help make this trip possible by driving one of the District-owned passenger vans. How many chaperones we take will depend on multiple factors, but we need a minimum of 4. Chaperones will only be considered if their student pays the full trip fee. Let us know of your interest when you complete the form below.

Other Festivals this Year: We still plan to attend several other local jazz festivals this year, but this will be our only out-of-town jazz band trip. Other ensembles (Wind Symphony, Winter Percussion, etc) may also be going on out-of-town trips this year.

The field trip fee will cover: 

  • Ground Transportation (we will be taking District-owned passenger vans)

  • One night hotel stay in the Hampton Inn & Suites in Folsom

  • Student Admission Fees to all events. Chaperone admission is $15.

  • Festival Fees

  • Breakfast on Sunday

The total field trip fee for the direct costs (transportation, festival fees, lodging, etc.) associated with this field trip is $220.00 per student and $120 per chaperone. The trip fee for chaperones that are driving students or equipment will be waived. Trip fees are due on Friday, January 16, 2026

Please complete and return the trip form (link below) by Monday, September 15, 2025. Financial assistance will be provided to those in need and should not be a deterrent to participation.

*Please note that the trip may not happen/be canceled if:

  • The amount of financial assistance requested exceeds our trip budget.

  • We are not able to travel with the entire band, with all parts covered.
